The C-IPQ (Cambridge International Project Qualification) for Sixth Form Students

What is the IPQ?

As part of their Sixth Form experience, students at Alma Mater International School have the opportunity to complete the Cambridge International Project Qualification (C-IPQ). This exciting project-based qualification allows students to develop their skills by conducting in-depth research on a topic of their choice. The C-IPQ goes beyond traditional exam preparation and enables students to demonstrate their engagement and expertise in their chosen area of interest. This unique qualification sets them apart when applying to universities and employers.

Who is the C-IPQ for?

The C-IPQ is typically designed for students aged 16 to 19 years. It is ideal for students who wish to extend their learning beyond their Cambridge International AS & A Levels and seek an opportunity to distinguish themselves in university and job applications. By undertaking the C-IPQ, students can showcase their deeper engagement with their chosen topic, nurturing their ability to become lifelong students.

What will students learn?

The C-IPQ focuses on developing higher-order thinking skills that are highly valued by universities and employers. Students enhance their analytical, evaluative, and synthesis skills, while also honing their research, reflection, and communication abilities. This skills-based qualification prepares students for the demands of higher education and the professional world.

What will students do?

As part of the C-IPQ, students will undertake a 5000-word research project on a topic of their own choice. They have the freedom to select a subject that complements one of their Cambridge International A Level subject or explore a topic they are passionate about. Under the guidance of their teachers, students will identify a suitable research topic, devise and develop a research question, plan and conduct research, undertake a literature review, use appropriate research methods, and finally, write a comprehensive research report. Throughout the process, students will maintain a research log to track their progress and reflect on their learning journey.

How is the C-IPQ assessed?

The C-IPQ is a single component that is externally assessed by Cambridge examiners. Students will receive grades ranging from A* to E, providing them with a recognised qualification that holds the same standard as a Cambridge International A Level. The assessment ensures that students’ work is rigorously evaluated and meets the required academic standards.

What skills will students need?

The C-IPQ builds upon the knowledge, understanding, and skills typically gained through Cambridge IGCSEs or O Levels. We recommend that students embarking on this course have attained communication and literacy skills at a level equivalent to Cambridge IGCSE/GCSE Grade C in English. This ensures that they possess the necessary language proficiency to effectively communicate their research findings.

The C-IPQ at Alma Mater International School offers students a unique opportunity to delve deeper into their areas of interest, engage in independent research, and develop crucial skills for future success. It is an integral part of our commitment to providing a comprehensive and transformative educational experience.
